“Maaeri yaad wo yaad wo aaye ri”

Bollywood being a completely different storyteller — has led to the birth of many music maestros. And now the indie music scene is welcoming artistes and their unique compositions with arms wide open

Liberation in the music industry forming the indie scene — signified the inculcation of personal creativity and ingenuity in terms of strains and notes. Who hasn’t enjoyed listening to Lucky Ali’s vocals, Euphoria’s melodies or The Indian Ocean’s cadenced patterns — as a few to be named. The curators have always been there, but the Indie in India today is on a completely different edge. The edge which discerns the indie music of the nation as a narrative of many!

Are you following today’s indie tunes?

The indie set up is building up to a crescendo — composers, lyricists, and musicians have a bigger palate in front of them in today’s time. They are exposed to greater promotional ideas for their content, they can transcribe their lyrics with heart-warming chords, and experimentation with genres, sounds, and tunes is moderately free and easy. The last decade has seen the emergence of many artistes from every nook and corner of the country.

Are you able to recall songs from your childhood by artists such as Parikrama, Bombay Rockers and many more?

The idea behind indie has always been to give the audience a part of the artiste’s soul. The indie scene allowed the musicians to portray the tone of their words with emotions, mixtures, and new blends. Not anymore, is it a requirement to keep trying to catch up with music labels and recording studios as home-produced tracks are being brewed all over the country extensively. The cost of production has cut down as streaming platforms like YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, etc. make it relatively easier to bring fresh songs for the audience. Live shows at campuses and music festivals such as NH7, Ziro festival of music, Sunburn, etc, starting to take place since 2010 gave a boost to the bands, solo or duo artists to showcase their songs and music.

The confluence of many eminent factors gave the scene some significant names that have made their way to the hearts of music enthusiasts.

We have come a long way ahead as compared to what the music in the indie scene used to be like during the times of Lucky Ali. The quality in terms of production and content has been followed upon till date, but the level of interaction and engagement is becoming huge at a much greater pace. The justification to the word “indie” is now being done by popular names such as The Local Train, Prateek Kuhad, Anuv Jain, Abhilasha Sinha etc. It’s not only about the streaming or buying of the artiste’s songs, but also that more and more shows are being done and more and more people are coming forward to attend the shows.

The scene has grown and it will grow even more in the coming days as it keeps on pertaining to the love for freedom.
